General Program
The Club Sailing Program for the next
year commences late April with club events starting promptly at 10:30 AM last race
to finish before 2:30
pm
Sailing will be conducted at Woorabinda Lake, Mabel St
Stirling
Sailing every Wednesday with
handicap racing on the last Wed of the month and Championship Racing on the other
days.
The club also runs a match racing event in early December and an Interclub event
late September. We break for Christmas for 3 weeks.
Social sailing is
available to members every Sunday morning
8.00 to 12.00am
All
state events can be seen on the SARYA web site
Visitors are most welcome to come along and join in the
fun.

An early start to the day
with
the launch of Duncan's boat, which has had all the leaks fixed thanks to
Allan Gold. Mal, Dave N and Steve set the rig up for Duncan and came to the
decision that one of the A Rigs that he used was an absolute wreck and
needed to be binned. Next week we will try the other one, hopefully with
much more success. Dave K packed it in after his first race and helped
Duncan sail for the rest of the day. Well done Dave K. We also had 2 members
from the Adelaide Hills Council arrive to discuss the new pontoon for
launching and retrieving our boats from, that they are going to build for
the club which will be a huge improvement on what we are using now. Thanks
guys. The lake is getting very low and it has become difficult for long
keeled boats because they are getting stuck in the mud. Well, we have to
take the good with the bad. Next week is handicap day with a BBQ for lunch
which is always welcomed.

The Stirling Marblehead Yacht Club
is going gangbusters. 9 skippers on the lake with 8 competing and 1
skipper our newest member Duncan learning the "ropes". At the end of the day
Dave N ended up in the reeds so out came the rescue boat. After retrieving
it we had a few issues and the rescue boat came to grief. Then the club boat
rescued the rescue boat. Not sure what happened with Dave K's boat but there
was a problem with it somewhere. Mal had a blitzing day and maybe a drogue
needs to be attached to his boat because he won 7 out of 11 races. Mal
has set the bar so high and laid down the challenge. We are all
looking forward to handicap day.

It was Duncan's first attempt at sailing today
.
Steve didn't compete because he assisted Duncan in familiarising himself
with the course, the rules and keeping the boat in the right direction. We
were all very surprised when, at the end of the day in race 9, Duncan came
first. Well done. Ben dropped in and had a race using Mal's boat (impressive
yacht!- BenM). And steak and onion sandwiches for lunch topped it all.
Thanks David K. What more could a person ask for. Ticks all
round for a perfect day at the lake.

A rigs/long keels,
A
rigs/ short keels, B rigs/ long keels, B rigs/ short keels. Take a lucky
dip. That's how the day went. Mal was uncatchable using his long keel and B
rig for the first 5 races but then his rudder servo failed and so that
bought him to an unwelcomed halt. All in all a day of fast racing and there
was still enough water in the pond to keep us afloat on the course. Next
week handicap day with a BBQ.

A frustrating day of incidents
4
rescues 3 from reeds and 1 from 2 boats linked together plus 2 boat stuck
in shallow water with weed tangled around the bulb. Rob was frustrated
trying to improve his performance handling the windy conditions, Dave even
tried his C2 rig. We manage to repair Jeff's rudder on his boat after
his tangle with John caused by a strong gust of wind. Duncan only had 2
races under guides of Marty.

Well that's it for sailing for 2024.
The
day brought a few headaches for some. Rob had trouble with the buoys down at
the far end of the course and finally his boat got hung up on one. John's
winch gave up after the third race and David K had winch trouble as well but
got it sorted for a while before the problem returned. With very light wind
conditions we still managed 11 races. Next Wednesday the 18th December is
our CHRISTMAS BREAKUP at the Bridgewater Inn at 12.00 noon. All booked so
this is the last reminder. Hope to see you all there.

Despite the holes in the wind
there was enough to get some exciting and close racing. David found the trip
down the hill took a little longer than it used to to get the correct keel.
Jeff nearly made a dinghy recovery necessary but skillfully extracted his
yacht from the reeds. Michael was very pleased with his effort in the first
race and was right up the front throughout the race - just wait till next
time was his warning!
One more Wednesday of sailing before our Christmas
lunch and break up for 2024.

Wind! There was enough wind today
to last for the next two weeks of sailing. It was wild!
Yes that's right. Only two more sailing days before our
Christmas breakup
on Wednesday December 18th at the Bridgewater Inn at 12.00 noon. We will
decide on that day the return date for 2025 (3 or 4 weeks). That is the
question to be answered and voted on. The choice is yours. Thanks Dave K for
the last BBQ for 2024.

Wow! What a day! Perfect
conditions
and a great turnout of skippers who were all searching
for the perfect wind which was challenging at the best
of times. One minute it was there and then it was gone.
Well I suppose that it is typical of the lake
conditions at Stirling. Next week will be the last
handicap event and the last BBQ for the year. See you

Yes Rob's mate Mike did turn
up
to sail his boat this week. And Rob' s day started with
his new boat having a problem which after
much discussion between us all and a lot of hull banging
which didn't work, the saga continued with
Mal trying his best to assist as it was his old F3. But
with no success. So Rob will work on it during the week
ready for sailing next Wednesday. Now to sailing.
We started with 10 skippers and ended with 5 finishing
the day's events. The lake is getting shallower by
the week so gumboots are required for launching the long
keeled yachts until the ramp is totally exposed and dry.
Hope to see everyone next week with all problems sorted.
Remember that there is only 4 racing days left before
our Christmas break. So let's make the most of them to
end the year on a high.

The day started off as a working bee with Malcolm
coming totally organised with a rake, waders and so we
started to clean the edge of the lake of weeds rocks,
branches and sunken logs. So the day's racing started
later and 7 races was all we could fit in. We also
required the use of the rescue boat for 2 recoveries.
Rob brought a friend who came along and sailed the club
boat. There is a good chance we might possibly acquire
a new member. Don't forget, 18th December is the
Christmas breakup at the Bridgewater Inn at 12.00. Put
